How We Began
Keyokuk Kennels was founded in 1969 when my husband and I purchased our first ALASKAN MALAMUTE, Bandit. He became CH. Bandit of Keyokuk CD-WPD-WWPD-WTD-WLD. He was a large seal and white male, very athletic, with a strong desire to please.

We also purchased a beautiful sable and white female Crystal. She became CH WESTWINDS CRYSTAL OF KEYOKUK CD-WTD. She was an exceptional addition to our kennel.

A True Working Class Dog
We soon fell in love with the breed as we dove into HIKING, BACKPACKING, CAMPING, SLEDDING, WEIGHTPULLING, AKC CONFORMATION AND OBEDIANCE. Our Mals did it all! Our commitment was to try to build upon the foundations of what a Malamute was bred to be!

We knew as we worked and showed our dogs that it was important to produce an exceptional dog with loving temperament, strong, sound conformation, athletic ability, intelligence and a willingness to please. Most importantly, all of this needed to be validated by working them!
